"Malala" by Nina Falaise
Malala Yousafzai was born 12 July 1997. She is a teenager, political activist, writer, journalist, and fighter for the education of girl’s right to education in Pakistan. Yousafzai publicly spoke out against the Taliban regime. Because of her boldness in action, the Pakistani Taliban unanimously agreed to orchestrate her assignation, stating that they were “forced” to act because previous death threats to silence her did not work. In 9 October 2012, while returning home on a school bus, Taliban gunmen shot Yousafzai in the head and neck in an assassination attempt. In the days immediately following the attack, she remained unconscious and in critical condition, but later her condition improved enough for her to be sent to a hospital in the United Kingdom for intensive rehabilitation. Malala Yousafzai has been nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize by Desmond Tutu and the Nobel Peace Prize. She is the winner of Pakistan's first National Youth Peace Prize.
Malaya continues to crusade for girls rights to education in Pakistan. Even in the face of oppression, fear, and death threats, her unwavering commitment to stand up to powerful leaders for something she believes is every person’s right, and doing so at such a young age, is extraordinary.
