“Hotel”.
“Chad - In 2006, I was in Chad, working on a mission for the International Criminal Court. I stayed in Abeche, where refugees were ensconced in the daily trials of sand, blood, and war. Once we made a trip outside of Abeche. We reached N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, and made a brief visit to a hotel situated next to the Curlee River. The food at this hotel for Westerners and expats marked an extreme contrast to what I knew people were eating just outside its boundaries. The hotel offered me the most guilt-ridden meal and pool swim that I have ever endured. Later I learned the hotel had been shot up, in 2008, machine-gunned and rafted.”
